Cheslav Ivanovich Chenzinsky and Dmitry Leonidovich Romanowsky. have given rise to stain techniques of biological preparations with mixture of azur B, methylene blue and eosin Y.

The priority in polychrome staining of blood smears with mixture of azur B, methylene blue and eosin Y belongs to Romanowsky D.L..

Нis works initiated application and perfection of staining technique, which is used all over the world 120 years.

It is so called «Romanowsky stain» or «Romanowsky type stain».

Further a great number of doctors all over the world have taken part in perfection of a technique which is applied practically in each medical laboratory.

Works of Jenner, Leishman, May and Günvald, Nocht, Giemsa, Wright, Pappeheim and group of the authors who have developed ICSH reference technique of Romanowsky type staning, are most known.


In connection with the 125 anniversary of the publication of the article  D. L. Romanowsky, "On the structure of malaria parasites" (VRACH, 1890, number 52, 1171-1173.), where he firstly described the methods and results of staining of blood preparations with polychrome effect, are placed on the site  file with the original article, article translated into Russian with the modern spelling and an English translation.
